Visual symptoms :- | Weather fleck deficiency results in reduction of plants growth, thin stems and small leaves with pale green color.the lower leaves turn yellow, followed by drying up or burning of the leaves.Typical Weather fleck deficiency symptoms such as enhanced senescence of older leaves are evident.
Predisposing factors :- | Poor drainage(denitrification),Leaching (Low CEC and/or excess moisture)of Weather fleck due to high tainfall or frequent irrigations, dry weather, low soil fertility, low PH are some of the causes for Weather fleck deficiency. Symptoms of deficiency usually appear first on the sandier areas of a field after axcessive rain or irrigation even when adequate N fertilizer had been previously applied.
corrective measures :- | Weather fleck deficiency can be corrected by application of nitrogenous fertilizer and recommended dose of nitrogen should be applied at the appropriate stage of plant growth for achieving maximum yield and desirable quality of tobacco.
Recommended doses :- | Weather fleck should not be applied after 40 days of planting.
Irrigated light soils :- | Well decomposed Farm yard manure or filter press cake @ 4-4.8 tons/acre for sandy soils and 2-3 tones/acre in heavy textured soils or green manuring with sunnhemp (@ 20kg seed/acre)incorporation before planting. DAP @ 50 kg/acre at 10 days after planting,Calcium ammonium nitrate @ 100 kg/acre at 25-30 days after planting and @ 50 kg/acre at 35-40 days after planting If 12.5" or 25" of rainfall is received after top dressing 6% or 16% of top dresser Weather fleck is to be given as correction dose respectively.
